Vanilla has a distinct sweet and creamy aroma that is unmistakable. It is derived from a 12 foot orchid, Vanilla planifolia, and is a widely used flavoring in many desserts and drinks. Vanilla is also known for its calming and stress–relieving effects, and some studies even suggest that it can act as an aphrodisiac. It is used in a multitude of different products from baking and cooking, to making candles and fragrances. The delicious and distinct aroma of vanilla has been enjoyed for centuries and continues to be a beloved component in many recipes today.
Directions: Remove ONE vanilla bean from the 12 OZ bottle. Split the bean in half top to bottom and return to the bottle (leaving the other three beans in the bottle).
Add 12oz 80 proof or higher vodka. Replace the lid. Store in a cool dark place for 8-12 weeks. Shake every few weeks. use the finished Vanilla Extract for all your baking and cooking needs. Once you have used 3/4 of the extract start the above process over again with a whole bean. You may continue to refill the bottle until the flavor dissipates.
